Tagrid Sihly is an instructional specialist in the Office of Early Literacy, The Universal Literacy Initiative, NYC Department of Education. She supervises a team of 44 reading coaches serving 54 public schools. While supporting the work of the coaches, she also provides ongoing professional development to cohorts of reading coaches, and she works with the districts and school leaders to enhance instructional practices while supporting all students in meeting grade level standards. Prior to serving as an instructional specialist, Tagrid was a reading coach, a reading specialist, and a classroom teacher for over 20 years. Tagrid earned a certificate in Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership from the College of Saint Rose and a master’s in education, with specialization in the teaching of reading, from Brooklyn College. She has professional certification in school and district leadership from NYS as well as certification in reading and classroom instruction for grades K to 12.
